Think of yourself as a seedling. With a new seedling, we can plant it in a pot, or in the ground and hope it grows, or we can be intentional about making sure that it grows. We can add water, fertilizer and prune it when some of the leaves become dead or wilted. Hope does not grow a plant. Now, if you plant it and leave it and then experience a great deal of rain, the seedling may grow some, but eventually the growth will cease and the plant will die.
How are you treating yourself as a seedling? Are you hoping that things will get better in your life and hoping you will get the next promotion, hoping you will become a better leader and dreaming of getting rich? What is your growth plan for you? Hope will not make you successful. Nor will it help you grow. You must be intentional in sowing the seeds for your own personal and professional growth.
I recently began a new growth journey with several like-minded individuals. Some may say it’s a waste of money, or it’s just like the last thing you started but never finished. With growth, you get out of it, what you put into it. Investing in yourself is the best investment you can make. With your own personal and professional growth comes the opportunity to become successful and to have a more profound impact on others.
Over the years, I have invested a lot of money into growing myself. The time that I have spent investing in myself is where the real payoffs come. This year, I am looking at an exponential growth spurt. I’ve got all the tools I need. I have a growth program, a coach, a few mentors, and some accountability partners. However, the most important ingredient in my growth is my willingness and dedication to growing and becoming a better person.
What is your growth plan? What are you going to grow yourself? Are you relying on hope, luck, or the fact that someone knows and likes you? Or are you being deliberate about your growth? This is the difference between seeing the seedlings turn into a healthy plant, or watching the leaves wilt away and die.
Tell me how you are growing. Tell me how I can help you grow!
